The Oceanic Summer Series main event is well under way

With three groups played out over the course of a weekend, the field has now been narrowed down to 6 of the region's best.

The Oceanic Summer League has been the first big Overwatch event for teams within the region. All throughout February teams from Australia, New Zealand, and also South East Asia, have been fighting for a chance to make it to the main event. The start of the main event had three groups of eight, fighting out in a double elimination bracket where the top two from each group would qualify for the finals.

In Group A, Masterminds came in looking like the favourites to make it out as the top seed, especially considering the strength of the other teams in the group. Unfortunately, in one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far, they first ended up falling to Scylla Esports in the winners finals, and then to M A Lakas in both team's final chance to qualify. Despite failing to qualify for the next stage of the competition, Masterminds continue to show improvement and show promise for future results.

Groups B and C were played simultaneously, with the biggest names in the region Fusion Girls and Tempo Storm drawing a lot of attention to group C and their matchup. All games in the upper bracket ended 2-0, and that was no different for the qualifying match, with Fusion Girls dominating Tempo Storm, stamping their authority over the competition, and sending a message that they're aiming to take the whole thing. Tempo in their next shot at qualifying looked shaken after the beating they received, but eventually recovered to edge out YES MEN 2-1 and lock in their spot amongst the final 6.

It was more of a straightforward affair in Group B, with Love Shack getting 2-0's all the way through the bracket to qualify first. Jam Gaming was the other team to make it through the group, but they ended up having a tougher run, falling to Love Shack rather early on.

With Jam Gaming rounding out the final 6 teams in the tournament, we now look towards next weekend where the event will reach its climax. Fusion Girls are looking absolutely indomitable right now, and the other teams are going to need to really step up their game if they're to even take a map from them.

The finals begin 25 February and will go on for two days, with the stream over at twitch.tv/fullcircle.
