A look ahead and back at OGN Apex Season 2 so far

We are close to halfway through the group stages of OGN Apex Season 2 and here's a look at what happened last week and what we have to look forward to.

Event Hub

We are now in Week 4 of OGN Apex Season 2 and finishing up the 2nd round of group stage matches and we can see how the groups are shaping up. After the Cloud9 vs Afreeca Freecs Blue and the Runaway vs Fnatic matches, we will have seen half of the games and can start getting a good look at who is going to make it out of the group stages. On top of that, after several matches on the new patch we have a better view for how the top teams in the world are adapting.

With the new patch we have seen a shift to more DPS based compositions even from the western side, although compositions are less one size fits all and based more on what map and mode it is. Every team has adapted to using more DPS heavy compositions but, as nV showed, the 3 tank composition is very viable and something that we will still see plenty of.

Last week we had nV defeat BK Stars 3-1 and Misfits pulled off a dominate 3-0 win over Afreeca Freecs Red. nV beat BK Stars in classic nV fashion, they looked dominate throughout the series letting only one map slip away from them. Misfits took a little bit to get warmed up on Ilios but looked dominate after the first control point.

Looking ahead at this week, Cloud9 vs Afreecs Blue will be an interesting powerhouse match that could decide who gets 2nd place in the group. This will be the first time we see either of these teams post patch.

After that match we have Fnatic facing off against Runaway; definitely a match to watch to see how that group shapes up. Winner of that match could very well be the one to make it out of the group stages. We will get to see Fnatic bust out some of their DPS prowess that was stifled previous patch. Runaway will also be able to practice some of the freedom that is now available.

OGN Apex promised exciting high octane matches between the best teams in the world. And it has delivered. We have so much of the tournament still ahead of us and it will be exciting to see how the teams develop rivalries and adapt to each other.
