The highly anticipated APEX Season 2 starts today and here is everything you need to know to start watching immediately.
OGN organized the first season of the APEX Overwatch league last year, which brought 4 western teams to South Korea to compete against the best of Korea.
The western teams clearly didn’t let anybody down, even winning the whole thing, as there are now 4 (mostly new) western teams invited again: Cloud9, EnVyUs, Fnatic, and Misfits. The only returning western team is EnVyUs, last season's winners. The Eastern teams in attendance all earned their place during a variety of qualifiers, going back to last year. That does not mean that the Western teams didn’t earn their place as they certainly did through other accomplishments.
From the Asian side of things you have heavy hitters such as KongDoo Panterra, Afreeca Freecs Blue and Red and of course Lunatic Hai. The team distribution is as even across the groups as it could be but Group B has been dubbed the group of death already. It features LW Blue, Misfits, Lunatic Hai, and AF Red. That group alone showcases the talent that this tournament is boasting.
On January 17th 2017 the tournament kicks off its group stages where teams play in best-of-5 matches to make it the top of their group over a period of weeks. The top 2 teams from every group will then advance to the playoff rounds with the prestigious title on the line.

The first day of gaming will bring us some great matchups, and that’s just the beginning of this premiere tournament. The first match of the tournament will have the reigning champs, EnVyUs facing off against MVP Infinity. This match will be a chance for nV to show that they still have the skills that gave them the crown last time around. But for MVP Infinity the match will be a chance for an upset that would make other teams take them more serious.
The 2nd match of the day will be Misfits vs LW Blue; an incredibly exciting matchup. This will be the first true matchup of Korean powerhouse versus Western powerhouse; as well as being the first challenge that the new Misfits team will face since their loss in IEM Gyeonggi.
