The groups for the OGN APEX Season 2 have been announced. The star studded line ups are set to battle it out for their share of a $180,000 prize pool on January 17th.
Korea’s premier Overwatch league has announced the groups for its upcoming season. As we announced earlier this week, OGN APEX Season 2 has invited four Western teams to compete with the best Korea has to offer. 16 teams will be split up into four groups, where they will play round robin best of 5s. The top two teams from each group will move on to the bracket stage. The tournament will begin on January 17th and feature a $180,000 prize pool.
While none of the groups will be a free ride, group B has earned the early designation as the group of death. Featuring the #1 ranked team in Asia, Lunatic Hai, the #1 ranked team in Europe, Misfits and two very strong squads in Afreeca Freecs Red and LW Blue (Purple). The winner of this group may very well go on to win the tournament.
While group B appears to be the strongest on paper, every group features one or more juggernaut of Overwatch. EnVyUs, the #1 ranked team in the world, is lurking in group A. Cloud9 and Afreeca Freecs Blue, both ranked #2 in their regions are set to clash in group C and fnatic and KongDoo Panthera are going to lock horns in group D.
