Here's a suggestion: Confirmation before entering competitive play

If you could change something in Overwatch, what would it be? You don’t always have to go big. Sometimes it’s the subtle changes that feels the greatest. In this series, we’ll go over some of the quality of life changes that could be made in Overwatch.

Current

A thread on Reddit brought up the issue with not having a confirm button or something alike when joining competitive play. Sometimes people accidentally queue for competitive, find a match sooner than they can cancel, and get stuck in a game they don’t want to play. Or you queue up with friends that have the tendency to go afk without notifying anyone, and you don't have a way of fixing that situation. Other games like League of Legends and CS:GO all have an “I’m ready to play” confirm button before entering competitive games. So maybe Overwatch should have one too?

Changes

One idea is to add a confirmation button when you queue up for competitive play. “You are about to queue up for competitive play, are you sure?” This gets rid of the problem with people accidentally queueing up for the wrong thing.

Another problem solver could be to just add an AFK check, or a “I’m ready” button before entering the game. This way you won’t get into a game with people that are away from the start.

Up- and downsides

At the moment there is a feature in Overwatch that acts as a failsafe. If someone is AFK at the start of the game, they get kicked and the game gets cancelled. It’s the same if someone intentionally leaves the game. The game gets cancelled, and the other players in the game don't get a penalty for this. Other than wasting a bit of time, that is.

It can get frustrating though, if people queue up and rely on the ready check to save them if they are AFK or tabbed out. The declines can pile up quickly and become irritating for the people actually ready to play.

So why add this change? First off, it could save people from the frustration of people leaving at the start of the game, and it getting cancelled. Secondly, it will save the person that accidentally queued for the wrong game mode/is afk, from getting punished too hard. But then, you can argue that maybe that’s what they deserve anyway.

This particular quality of life change has both many up- and downsides. The thread on Reddit seems to be split as well. But keep in mind that this is just an idea, and be sure to make your voice heard if you have your own suggestions.
