Overwatch has become more than just a game; it is now also home to a gameshow streamed to Twitch and featuring your favourite streamers.
With the growth of Overwatch in streaming and eSports, it is natural that the game would expand to other forms of entertainment. Now it has entered game show entertainment. Created by ChanmanV, and hosted by ZP every 2-3 weeks, the Streamer Showdown gathers your favourite (Overwatch) streamers to quiz them on the game and the lore.
If you have been looking at delving into Overwatch’s rich history but don’t feel like doing the reading that comes with that, this is a perfect substitute. In the first round, ZP asks the streamers to guess a hero based on hints. The first couple hints are really obscure, revealing things that even the most knowledgeable gamer may not know. Or perhaps it’s something that you simply forgot; either way it is a great way to learn the lore.
Even if you don’t care about the lore you are guaranteed to have a good laugh when the streamers make mistakes and chirp each other a bit. Good fun. The whole thing has some excellent production value, with face cams, gameshow elements and even the presence of buzzers. In some rounds wrong answers deduce points, in other rounds the players have lives where if they get too many incorrect answers they are out of the round, preventing them from getting any more points. And the final round this edition featured something we all love: (semi-)dank memes.
This first edition featured ZP as the host, with streamers Ster, Harbleu and Pokelawls as contestants. ChanmanV has stated that he plans to involve Hearthstone streamers (and those of other communities) as well in the future.
On a whole, the game is a hoot, especially when played with people that don’t take themselves too seriously and know how to have a good time. So tune in if you are up for some silly fun, a healthy dose of lore and a chance to meet some new cool people. The episodes are streamed live on the ChanmanV Twitch Channel and also uploaded to his Youtube.
