REUNITED is a step closer to becoming a fully established professional Overwatch team. Hayes takes the role of coach.
It looks like REUNITED is on a recruiting train. After rising star Onigod joined their ranks as the new DPS player to replace former DPS player Kyb, REUNITED have chosen Hayes as their coach. Hayes is a former competitive player and is definitely not new to coaching, as that was his role when he was part of Reason Gaming. With both Onigod and Hayes becoming part of the family (and travelling to Korea for the APEX League), REUNITED seems to get the solid, established team they need to stay in top condition in the competitive scene.
Hayes’ statement on his role as the new REUNITED coach:
Slowly, coaching is finding its way into the Overwatch scene. Coaches can be that one source of major improvement when joining a team. Their job is often underestimated; they need to offer analysis of the team’s gameplay, scrims and team statistics for instance. Coaches are valuable as they can prepare the team for every game they will be playing and sometimes even correct mistakes during those games.
A coach needs to be able to face the team with their problems and get rid of said problems. Improving the team’s gameplay as well as improving the personal skills of six individuals. Reflecting on past tournaments, past competitive games is essential for a team to do. Sometimes, the only way to learn from your mistakes is for another person to see those mistakes and work together to solve the problems, to improve the gameplay.
Another point, probably the most important and difficult to execute as a coach, is to take part in the psychological field of the team. Having face-to-face time with the players could do a lot to increase their will to compete and their greed to win. You need to know and understand the behaviour of those six individuals craving to become the best in the world.
