A taste of things to come from the Korean Overwatch talent

With Overwatch on the rise, we expect more from players, tournaments and organizers. But so far, the west has been a bit secluded from what the Asian scene has to offer. In the recent Wooridongne Game League we got to witness some of the Korean brilliance.

The playoffs for this event started on August 16th, and concluded on August 25th. In the finale, we saw the teams Rhinos Gaming Wings and OPPADANAWA in a Bo3. The games were close, even though RGW looked somewhat stronger. For the second map of Hollywood we saw some nice Overwatch treats. OPPADANAWA’s Mirage on Reaper tried a flanking strategy on the first point defending. This did surprise RGW, but did not manage to do enough work, and Rhinos Gaming Wings could cap pretty quickly. We could also enjoy a quick visit from Widowmaker as well as the good old Pharmercy combo.
After a nice comeback from OPPADANAWA, Hollywood got tied and therefore we went to a tiebreaker on Nepal. RGW could then close out the series pretty quickly and walk away as the winners. (Prize included $2,730, ROCCAT gear, a sponsorship deal and a spot in an upcoming Korean Pro League.)

All in all the Korean scene surely shows promise, and with players as Selly (who was playing some insane dps characters) on teams like Rhinos Gaming Wings, the West sure has reasons to keep an eye open in the future. Below you can find the VOD of the finale, but if you are looking for more from this tournament, you can find that on the event hub here
