Method.gg signs 1SHOT

I sat down with Brayden “APotentBeast” Wilmoth, the manager of the new Method Overwatch team, to hear what the future has in store for this promising new team.

It seems like every week new organizations are entering the competitive Overwatch scene, and this week is no different. Method, a professional eSports organization with origins in World of Warcarft, has signed the tenth ranked team in North America, 1SHOT. I sat down with Brayden “APotentBeast” Wilmoth, the former manager of 1SHOT and now the manager of the new Method Overwatch team, to talk about 1SHOT, Method, and how this sponsorship will help both groups involved..

The story of 1SHOT’s origin is a familiar one. The Overwatch beta had just been released and Brayden “APotentBeast” Wilmoth wanted to enter the GosuGamers tournaments, but needed a team. He reached out to people he was playing with, and after a few days, 1SHOT was formed. In early February the 1SHOT roster was picked up by 2ARC but the team didn’t stay together long. After a few weeks, Brayden “APotentBeast” Wilmoth and Jacob “Psychowafflez” Oyer left 2ARC and restarted the 1SHOT team. 1SHOT had a second shot, and they definitely made the best of it.

As of July, 1SHOT has become one of the up and coming teams in North America. They appear to enter every tournament possible and the experience seems to be paying off. After a record of twelve wins and sixteen losses in June, 1SHOT heated up in July, and are currently sitting with twenty-seven wins and only sixteen losses. Behind the scenes, Brayden Wilmoth is looking to take the 1SHOT team to the next level and has started reaching out to sponsors.

Finding an organization that aligns its goals and vision with a team of at least six people is hard. We reached out to sponsors, but the process isn’t always an easy one. Typically, we reach out to a sponsor, send them clips, and allow them to sit in on our scrims. That way they could listen in on our communication and get to know the players to make sure there isn’t any tension or conflict with the roster.

As Method showed more interest in signing us, everyone from 1SHOT hopped on a Skype call with some people from Method. Once we had a chance to hear what Method was hoping to accomplish, we felt that it was a good fit for the team and decided to sign with them.

Method will also benefit from signing a new Overwatch team. Sascha Steffens, Method’s owner, believes Overwatch is a good choice for expansion, stating that his organization, “…trusts in the game's potential as an eSport but also because Overwatch's developer is Blizzard Entertainment. Method's main presence is in another very prominent Blizzard title, World of Warcraft. Overwatch and WoW share a lot of their player base, therefore we believe that our fans and followers are interested to see Method compete in both games.” Brayden Wilmoth knows that signing with an established organization with dedicated fans will increase publicity.

One of the benefits that come from signing with an organization such as Method is the ability for them to market both the team and the players individually.  Providing us with everything we need from tournaments to streaming and everything in between certainly helps out a lot too.  From the very beginning they have had our best interests in mind and willing to do what it takes to help us grow as a team.

The new Method Overwatch team will be comprised of Jacob “Psychowaffle” Oyer, Nick “exi” Dudek, Brandon “Ultimawep” Wilson, Randal “Roolf” Stark, Eric “Krawnnic” Beaugh, and recent addition Gabriel “Snow” Ceregatto. Brayden “APotentBeast” Wilmoth is taking over as the manager for the new team and Seamus "Seamoose" Anderson will be coaching. Be sure to keep an eye out for Method as they take part in the Overwatch Atlantic Showdown later today.
