A Viewers Guide to the Alienware Monthly Melee - July

The playoffs of this months Alienware Monthly Melee will be played later today. Considering the teams participating, it should be a set of close matches!?

Event Hub

The Alienware Monthly Melee returned yesterday with the groupstage of its July edition. While no teams were eliminated, the matches did influence seeding for the playoffs bracket. Unsurprisingly, EnVyUs and Cloud9 were the best team in their respective groups. WEUNITED and fnatic (old nubris) also played well, and secured a spot in the Upper Bracket because of that.

The bottom four teams of yesterday have been placed in the Lower Bracket, and are thus only one loss away from being eliminated. With a $3,000 prizepool, you could say this is pretty relevant.

Where to watch

The event will go live at 23:00 CEST/17:00 EDT/14:00 PDT. If you want to follow the action you can do so on the following channel:

Predictions

In order to help you get a better understanding of the teams participating, we have listed the favourites and challengers for today:

Favorites:

1. EnVyUs

As always, Team EnVyUs is the clear favourite to win. They are sporting a 100% win percentage in July, and only lost once in June. The last time they even lost a game was actually against Cloud9, but they still beat them convincingly with a 3-1 score. The team did not need time to adjust to the new patch and, while they did not play Ana, recorded a lot of minutes on Zenyatta and D.Va.

2. Cloud9

Cloud9 was looking a bit shaky by the end of June and start of July, but have regained their excellent form leading up to some of the bigger events going on right now. Still ranked #2 on our GosuRankings, though miles away from the #1 spot, the team is enjoying a period of 'mostly winning'. Nobody can blame them for losing to EnVyUs, and they have only lost to another team (TSM) once in recent times. Fnatic did take 1 game off of them yesterday, which might tease an upset today.

Challengers:

1. Fnatic

Last week we were happy to announce that major organization Fnatic joined the Overwatch scene, picking up the nubris roster. While Fnatic is ranked lower on our GosuRankings than LG, we expect them to soon rise past them and start threatening the top 3 of NA. The stability of their roster, and existence of their coach, results in them being our most likely Challengers.

2. WEUNITED

Officially the only EU team playing today, albeit with a partially-NA roster, WEUNITED will try to continue their recent impressive records, hopefully breaching the top 10 in our GosuRankings. We are not quite sure they are better than Fnatic (since they haven't played each other yet), but they have shown the ability to beat the majority of other participating teams. Besides EnVyUs and Cloud of course; beating them would be quite a surprise but one the team is wanting to make happen.
