Gale Force have decided to part ways with their world ranked 9th Overwatch Squad.
Today, Gale Force eSports announced the departure of their Overwatch branch. Gale Force eSports signed the squad in May of 2016. The ex-Gale Force team has resumed calling themselves Code7 (@TeamCode7), the same name they had before being picked up.
The statement, signed by both Freddie “MaVnis” Crespo, General Manager of Gale Force eSports, and Tiffany “Tifa” Chiu, the Team Manager of Code 7, indicated:
”After working together for 2 months Gale Force eSports and the current GFE Overwatch team have decided to part ways … The organization and team have mutually agreed upon this decision after coming to the realization that the two have differing perspectives. Both Gale Force eSports and the players of the Overwatch team are very grateful for our time together. We all wish one another the best and look forward to watching each other’s progress in the future. “”
The decision comes after a relatively successful June, where Code7 came away with a 53.85% win rate, and a promising July, where Code7 is currently 10-3 in GosuGamers recorded play.
In a short interview with GosuGamers, Tifa declined to comment on the differing perspectives mentioned in the Twitlonger post, but clarified:
”“We're really grateful for all they've done for us and they have indeed done a lot. But in the end, we felt that we were both better off long term if we part ways.””
While Code7 will be playing under their new name for the upcoming Beat Invitational tournament, future ESL Atlantic Showdown Qualifiers, and other tournaments in the foreseeable future, Tifa indicated:
”At this time the team has full intentions to continue competing in the top Overwatch tournaments. We currently are exploring options for sponsorship.””
Gale Force eSports will also be looking for teams to fill their newly vacated Overwatch division.
