Rules & Scoring

Agent’s Rising is trying out a new scoring system. The rules in their entirety can be found here, but the basics are as follows:

  • Each match will either be a best of three or a best of five. The match will end if a team is unable to tie or pass the opposing team’s score. In the event of a tie score at the end of a match, a single round of KOTH on a random map will determine the winner.
  • On payload and point capture maps, each team gets one point for successfully attacking or defending.
  • If each team successfully attacks, then the team with the fastest time receives one bonus point.
  • If each team successfully defends then the team that reached the farthest objective gets a bonus point. If both teams reached the same point, then no bonus point is awarded.
  • On KOTH maps, each team receives one point for a successful point capture.

What to watch for:

Agents Rising will feature many up and coming teams that are looking to make a name for themselves, but the top three teams have to be Cloud9, Gale Force Esports, and Team Liquid

Coming off a first place finish at the Alienware Monthly Melee earlier this week, Cloud9 has to be considered the favorite to take first place. Cloud9 was able to handily win their first five matches of the Alienware Monthly Melee, securing 2-0 victories in each. Facing Team EnVyUs in the winners bracket final, the US number one was faced with their first real test but was able to come out on top on the final capture point of a tie breaking KOTH. Cloud9 showed that they are a strong team that has the ability to come through in clutch situations.

Gale Force Esports and Team Liquid both had strong finishes in the Alienware Monthly Melee as well, and will look to build upon their successes. The experience gained after the Melee has to help both teams as they enter Agents Rising and it would not be surprising to see Gale Force and Team Liquid come in second and third.

This will be the first sizeable tournament for most of the teams taking part in Agents Rising, so don’t be surprised to see some new teams making a name for themselves. With new teams comes the potential for new tactics and unique team compositions. Cloud9, Gale Force, and Team Liquid must show that they are able to adapt to different team compositions and play styles or else there could be a few new teams rising in the Overwatch ranks.
