Blizzard launches Overwatch today with a Q&A. Tune in to hear Jeff Kaplan's insights on ranks, balance, clans, and more.
Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan hosted a Q&A on the Overwatch facebook today to kick off the launch of Blizzard's long awaited first person shooter. Kaplan explained how the name Overwatch came about and how they plan to be vocal with the community. When asked about competitive mode, Kaplan confirmed that it is their top priority:
Competitive, when it returns, will feature three month seasons and a format that reduces the number of stopwatch overtimes required.
Kaplan went on to talk about the difficulties of balancing the console and PC versions of the game and confirmed that they will be balanced separately to fit the platform. New gametypes were not ruled out, and Kaplan explained that they would be tweaking existing gametypes and testing new ones in Brawl. Some kind of Guild or Clan system is being considered by Blizzard. “Guilds and clans are something we absolutely think can add to the social fabric,” Kaplan added.
The 25 minute Q&A was wrapped up with a plea from Kaplan himself to the Overwatch community. “Let’s make it an awesome community that respects one another.”
