'Here's to a brighter future for all of us.'
With Crystal and Kabu already retired, 820 makes it three. Speaking up for the last time in a special interview by replays.net, 820 takes time off to answer questions on his departure and offer any last words he may have.
Hearing about your retirement, I feel really sorry about it. What led you to such a decision?
-"To be honest, I feel that something like this is really normal, and there's nothing about it to be regretful over. I've been battling it out in the competitive DotA scene for about three years now, and I've braced and made it through all the ups and downs. I've also met a kaleidoscope of people and things.
As a DotA player, I no longer have that burning passion for the game as I used to. I feel that if you don't possess that desire for a game, you will not be able to play at your best. Hence, I decided to quit and take a break."
Will we see you again when DotA 2 hits the shelves?
-"I can't say for sure, so maybe I might return. But like I said, I have already accomplished my goals and I no longer harbor any regrets about leaving. I feel that the newer generation of players out there with the goals I once had and the passion that has since left me should be given more opportunities to play."
What are your plans after retirement? Will you still be in ESports?
-"We'll leave this to fate, because I don't have any plans at the moment. All I want to do is return home and take a nice break. If any new job or game pops up, I might consider returning to the scene. I do not really know what fits me at this point in time, so I will have to explore things on my own."
What was the most memorable match you played in your career?
-"WCG 2009 China Finals (Replay)"
Yes, I remembered your Shadowfiend back then as being extremely aggressive... you even played GK in a best of three 1v1 match. Did you bet with him?
-"Haha yes, one pack of cigarettes..."
About your ten championship titles in 2010, which ones were comparatively harder to have attained and why?
-"It would have to be SMM and IEM I guess. We started those tournaments on sub-par form but improved as we went along... and eventually after an arduous process we got the championship."
How do you plan to spend the money you won from The International? Are you planning on a holiday?
-"I'm not. I'll be investing that money."
Finally, let's hear your literal last words for your fans.
-"I'm grateful for all the support everyone has given me over the years, really, I am. I hope that after I am gone, you guys will continue to support EHOME. At the same time, a big thanks to Gigabyte and all my other sponsors. Here's to a brighter future for all of us. Thanks everyone!
