Cloud9 and Immortals are the two Americas representatives to secure placement at the offline qualifiers for the PGL Major Kraków 2017.
Last night we saw the conclusion of the Americas Minor Championship, where North American representatives, Cloud9, managed to overcome South American representatives Immortals in a best-of-three series, securing first place at the tournament, in addition to $30,000 in prize money and a slot at the main qualifier for the Kraków Major. Immortals walked away with second place and $15,000, however the team has also qualified for the main qualifier, as a total of two slots were available for the region.
The teams faced off on all three maps of the series, with it all coming down to the final, third map. Initially we saw de_Mirage, where a comprehensive victory was seen for Cloud9. A strong initial half at 10:5 on the CT side allowed the Americans a foot into the match, which was followed by a flawless 6:0 T side performance to close things out at 16:5. Next up was de_Inferno, one of the Brazilians' strongest maps. In fashion similar to that of the previous map, Immortals set out at a decent pace, picking up round after round. The initial half saw a 9:6 CT side finish for Immortals, followed by a dominant 7:1 T side showing, closing the second map at 16:7. The final map, de_Cache, was rather lop-sided, clearly in favour of the Americans. Yet another strong defence was demonstrated by Cloud9, closing the initial half with a 10:5 score. Recreating the exact round score from their first map, Cloud9 closed out the latter half of Cache with a 6:0 offense, securing $30,000, the series and first place of the Americas Minor Championship.
Following the conclusion of the Americas Minor Championship, these are the currently known participants of the main qualifier for the LAN finals of the PGL Major Kraków 2017:
