LCK: SKT beats KT Rolster, leaving title race wide open

LCK is almost at an end and the top four is already decided, but how that top four shakes out will come down to the final day of the split.

The final week of LCK has been a busy one with a lot up for grabs. SK Telecom’s top four spot was pretty much guaranteed but today they faced a KT Rolster which was looking to hold onto first place. SKT won the first game of the series in fairly straight forward fashion, but game two was a demolition job from KT Rolster. SKT secured just two kills in a 27 minute game, and one of those was gifted by the fountain laser as KT ended the game

In a vital game three, SKT grabbed first blood but had it immediately traded back in the top lane and the game stayed even. It wasn’t till SKT took the first tower, thanks to an auto-pushing Tristana that 2k gold lead opened up. That lead grew, as Bang’s Tristana took down another unanswered tower, but KT kept the kill score and the overall big picture quite close. Some slippery Lucian play from Faker meant that his life was traded for another tower and suddenly the gold lead was growing to almost 5k as the 20 minute mark approached.

The action really started soon after, with KT picking off Faker and starting Baron, only to lose their own top laner, giving up the Baron in the process and now SKT had a commanding lead. More fancy footwork from Faker essentially ended the game. KT threw everything at Lucian, only to come out empty handed after conceding an ace. Post-30 minute death timers, coupled with most of KT’s towers already being down meant the game was over and SKT had secured a 2-1 win.

At the opposite end of the table, BBQ Olivers won over ROX Tigers, in a crucial battle to avoid the relegation tournament. It was  a hard-fought series, as the teams split the first two games evenly, and neither wanted to budge in the third. But after a lengthy, scrappy game, it was the Tigers who secured their safety, condemning BBQ to the bottom two, alongside the ironically named Ever 8 Winners.

There are still a handful of games left to play in the LCK, but the regular season ends on a high note on Sunday. Three of the top four teams will be in action, including a vital clash between Longzhu Gaming and Samsung Galaxy. SKT have an easier task against BBQ Olivers on the same day, but both results can still change the shape of the playoffs. Whoever win between LZ and Samsung will be tied with KT on 14-4, at which point individual game records decide the playoff seedings.
