NA LCS: Immortals retain top spot

Immortals are top of the league after important wins over fellow title-contenders CLG and Dignitas.

Space is finally starting to open up between the upper teams in the North American LCS. Immortals ended the week as the only team on 7-1 after pummeling Dignitas in the third and final game of their series. Immortals gave up just three kills in the final game, all of which came during the closing moments of while pushing the enemy base. In the fastest game of the Summer Split, Immortals ended up 18-3 in kills, 10-0 in turrets and 15,000 gold in under 25 minutes. After an otherwise impressive start to the season, Dignitas now sit tied for 4th place on a 5-3 record.

Victory over Dignitas stamped Immortal’s authority over the rest of the league, but their win over Counter Logic Gaming on Friday was more important. Both teams were previously tied at the top of the LCS, but Immortals back-to-back wins over the weekend cemented them in first place. Immortals dominated game one and showed that they can win the close matches in game two. An impressive 9/1/15 performance across the series from Cody Sun was the standout, but it was truly a weekend for Immortals to show off their teamwork.

Team Solomid continued their return to form at the weekend as well. Victory over struggling Flyquest looked about as run of the mill as possible and Echo Fox fared little better. The hyped match-up between Froggen and Bjergsen was a bit of a letdown in game one, as neither player secured a single kill. Bjergsen went off on Kassadin in game two, however, picking up seven kills and two assists at the cost of just two deaths.

Despite a disappointing loss on Friday, CLG were able to bounce back against the most average team in the lead. Envy Us ended the weekend on four wins and four losses but made CLG work for the win. They held a lead early in game one and won comfortably in game two, giving up just two kills to their opponents. Game three was all CLG, though, and for all their efforts in games one and two, Envy capitulated in game three.

Envy finished the week on a high, thanks to a win over Flyquest. The LCS table makes ugly reading for Flyquest fans who still have just the one win. They managed to take a game of Envy but that is small solace for a team that for a team that finished 4th last split. Phoenix 1 got their first win on the board against Echo Fox, but remain rooted to the foot of the table.
