An Interview with P1 Stunt

We got together for an interview with William “Stunt” Chen after his first week of performances with Phoenix1. He told us what it's like playing for a professional League squad, and gave us a look into the work it takes to play at a top level.

The Phoenix1 team dynamic changed greatly when they let Adrian go and picked up William 'Stunt' Chen. He had a great first weekend where he went 1/9/64 over four games, and has remained in the top five in KDA since then. I sat down with Stunt last week to see what it's like being a professional support player.

Josh Cosentino: How has the transition been going from a sub to a full time player for a brand new team?

William 'Stunt' Chen: I'm actually still not a full time player. I'm splitting time with Shady, our other support.

JC: You’ve had an insane performance over the past two weeks. What sort of routine did you put together to prepare for this weekend?

WSC: Now that I've been playing on stage more, I feel more invested in the team’s results. I've been working a lot harder, and spending almost all of my time preparing for each match. Playing in scrims, watching enemy team VODs, watching other region VODs, and playing duo queue with Arrow are just some of the things that I try to do when I can.

JC: You can definitely tell that you work hard, and Arrow commented on how he noticed it as well. You guys seem to have a ton of synergy. Which bot lane are you most anxious to face going forward?

WSC: I'm not too anxious to face any NA bot lanes.

JC: I can appreciate the confidence. Which support players did you look up to and model yourself after when you were coming up in the scene?

WSC: I didn't try to model myself after any one support player, but I do try to find the best attributes of each and try to implement it in my play.

JC: It is working out for you so far. That's for sure. How has the practice schedule changed going from team to team?

WSC: Generally practice schedules are similar between teams. We play two to three scrim blocks every day.

We're excited to see what lies ahead for P1 Stunt. He's shown a ton of potential in his first few professional appearances, and it would be very surprising if he didn't continue to improve as the weeks went by. If you have any questions/comments, shoot them to me @goldcos on Twitter!
