Dignitas sell off European team

After a month-long bidding war for its coveted LCS teams, Team Dignitas make the decision to sell off its European branch, leaving only their North American team to represent them in season six.

For years now, the Team Dignitas brand has been a fan favorite in the LCS community both in NA and EU. The brand showed success in both regions, with Dignitas still retaining their LCS spot for another split and DignitasEU looking great in the challenger scene. During the 2016 Spring Promotion Tournament, DignitasEU landed their very own LCS spot after being victorious against runner up Mouse Esports going 3-2.

However, this caused conflict for the organization. As per Riot’s ruling, a brand can only have one team represent them in the LCS as to not cause issues between teams owned by the brand. With this, Dignitas owner Michael “ODEE” O’Dell made the decision to place both teams up for auction to the highest bidder. After a month of silence, the announcement was made that an undisclosed brand had purchased Dignitas EU for upwards of $1 million, so says sources courtesy of The Daily Dot.

It is not yet known what the buyers intend to do with Dignitas’ line-up or if the team will still be heading into the EU LCS spring split for next year. Many call into question why Dignitas, an organization centered in Europe, would sell their EU team in favor of keeping their NA team around. Should Dignitas have kept their EU line-up instead? Will the organization regret their decision? With all the immense roster changes planned for 2016, it’s impossible to predict what season six will have in store for us.
