Cloud9 acquires Keith for challenger lineup

Cloud9 announced Monday that marksman Yuri “KEITHMCBRIEF” Jew will be returning to competitive play this spring, joining the organization’s revamped Challenger lineup. Captained by star jungler Will “Meteos” Hartman, the newly constructed team intends to climb their way through the Challenger circuit this spring.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing Keith back on the Rift this Challenger split, especially when he'll be representing Cloud9." stated an ecstatic Danan Flander, General Manager of C9, in the press release. "In almost every Challenger split Cloud9 has fielded a roster of talented players, and we're excited to do the same this Spring, starting with Keith."

The 17-year-old California native saw three weeks of big stage action this spring, subbing in for former Season 3 World Champion Chae “Piglet” Gwang-jin and helping the then-struggling Team Liquid team to a 5-1 record.

In June he got another opportunity, joining Team SoloMid to compete with incumbent AD carry Jason “WildTurtle” Tran, who was on a downhill slide of his own. And after sharing scrims and making a single game appearance on stage, Keith announced that he had lost the “competition” and re-accepted his role as a substitute, expressing his desire to enroll in school and acknowledging his professional career could be cut short.

But as many expected, he has returned for the right opportunity.

“I'm really grateful to Andy and TSM for having given me an opportunity to be on one of the best teams in the region. Although it didn't work out, I'm really glad Cloud9 is giving me another chance to show how good I really am."

With Meteos and Keith onboard, along with the resources and branding that comes with the Cloud9 organization, this new Challenger team is beginning to look like an alluring destination for the slew of free agents ready to hit the market. Like Renegades this summer and Origen in the spring, C9’s new Challenger team could bring some excitement to the minor league circuit this spring.
