CJ Entus looking for new recruits

CJ Entus history

CJ Entus is one of the most memorable teams of League of Legends eSports' history. Its original rosters from the divided Azubu teams featured and harvested many famous players. For instances, the previous rosters featured HoJong "Flame" Lee, Jangshik "Lustboy" Ham, and even YunSeop "Locodoco" Choi. The Entus organization also featured two of their legendary players, MinGi "Madlife" Hong and SangMyeon "Shy" Park, for the last three years. The peak of the organization's success was at Season 2 Worlds' Finals against Taipei Assasins with the Azubu Frost roster, where they ended as the second place. Both Frost and Blaze were later sponsored by CJ Entertainment and then fused into CJ Entus we see today.

Most recently, they have reached third place in the LCK Summer Split Season. Unfortunately, the team was not able to find a spot for Worlds as they were demolished by the KT Rolsters.

Player Recruitment

According to a reliable news report by LoL Inven, CJ Entus is currently looking for new recruits into their roster. Is it unusual that Korean teams like CJ Entus are looking for new additions to the squad? According to Christopher "MonteCristo" Mykles, it isn't.

However, other people think otherwise. Many think that CJ Entus' absence at the World Cup is a failure in their part. In fact, some Korean fans go as far as to say that the team has a shallow champion pool to pick from, dealing them a blow during pick/ban draft phases.

One may ask the question, "Can't the team just practice to expand their champion pool?" Yes, they can. However, one cannot dismiss the fact that there might be better players than the ones who are present in the current roster.

There are three ways to generally view this recruitment move by the CJ Entus organization:

  1. It can be just another recruitment process for a "B team" that Monte had mentioned.
  2. It can be a replacement strategy to discard the old and replace them with the new with the belief that the new members are potentially better than the older members.
  3. It can be a drafting strategy where the old members will share the starting lineup with the new members. Consequently, it will expand the champion pool of the team as a whole and play similarly like SKT T1's Faker/Easyhoon mix-up.

One should also not dismiss the fact that the potential recruits may be simply not good enough to join the roster. Thereby, there are no absolute answers to the decision that CJ Entus is making.
