Korean Regional Finals: KT finally secures a spot for Worlds

KT Rolsters finally goes to worlds, after making it to the post-season finals 3 seasons in a row. In their first attempt during Season 3, KT lost twice to their biggest rival, SKT. After upsetting Samsung Blue in the finals for the first OGN Champions trophy for the KT organization the next season, both KT Arrows and Bullets were smashed 3-0 by NaJin White Shield. However, this year, KT's dreams were revamped as they beat the Jin Air Greenwings in a cool victory of 3-1.

That does not mean the Greenwings were steam-rolled over by KT. The first match was an enlongated, tight game that showcased the strengths of both teams. The first half of the game was a game of rotations and trades. Jin Air got the better of the dragons, while KT got an additional turret after getting a pick on Changdong "Trace" Yeo. Once the Greenwings sneaked a baron 33 minutes in, they've dominated. Although the first baron got them no turrets, the second baron provided them an inhibitor. When, finally, KT contested Jin Air's 4th dragon, KT tidily aced the enemy team and ended the game. Jin Air's executions were off the mark, which eventually cost them the first game.

The second game started well for the Rolsters, As they capitalized on the strong lane matchups. This includes the Yasuo versus Lulu lane. DongBin "Score" Go's jungle movement with the Elise was good, but when DongHyeon "Arrow" Yeo hit on the Orianna player ChangSeok "GBM" Lee with Ashe's ultimate, KT overcomitted against a pure teamfighting composition. They did not manage to kill GBM, which would cost them two kills, two turrets, and a baron. However, KT adapted quickly and went back to full split-pushing with the Yasuo. The Greenwings were not able to answer ChanHo "Ssumday" Kim's Yasuo split-push and eventually gave an easy victory for the Rolsters.

In game 3, Jin Air went for a skirmish style team composition with a teleport Twisted Fate. Jin Air steamrolled ahead by heavily punishing the Fiora pick and forced KT to surrender, bringing the series to game 4.

The last game of the series started out with small kills, but it quickly escalated after Jin Air contested KT's first dragon. KT came on top in the very messy fight that featured Ssumday running away with less then 100 health. Afterwards, KT capitalized with multiple objectives. When they swept a teamfight 30 minutes into the game, KT's secured a trip to Europe.

KT will go for Worlds as the 3rd Korean seed in the second draw pool. SKT qualified as the first seed for the LCK by beating KT in the Summer Post-Season Playoff Finals. Thus, SKT T1 will be avoiding LGD, Fnatic and CLG in the Group Stage. Koo Tigers qualified based on points as the second seed. Hence, they will also be placed in the second draw pool. Riot had announced that the groups will be drawn Saturday, September 12.
