After an awe-inspiring debut in the LCS Spring Split, the Unicorns of Love (UOL) have won the hearts of many fans and pushed the boundaries of team comps, but have the Unicorns run out of puff or can they once again surprise the competition in the LCS Summer Split?
UOL finished second in the LCS Spring Split after being narrowly beaten by the stalwarts of the LCS, Fnatic, three games to two. For many fans of UOL this was a disappointing end to one of the?most exciting teams to watch but this certainly hasn’t taken the shine of of UOL. If anything this puts more pressure on them for the LCS Summer Split and the fans certainly won’t let them forget that.
To start the LCS Summer Split there could be no other game to watch than UOL v Fnatic. Once again Fnatic showed why they are the best team in Europe by reining in the UOL and stomping all over them on day one. UOL just couldn’t find the right fights and objectives to turn the match around. Fnatic shut down Vizicsacsi and Kikis feeding Fnatic a combination of 10 kills and with both players being key play makers it painted the picture for the rest of the game.
With the first loss on the board Unicorns of Love needed to ensure that they got a win from week one and satisfy their fans appetites for the UOL of old. Elements was next up and were certainly a team to be reckoned with but UOL tweaked their team comp and balanced out the weak points from their match against Fnatic to ensure a more solid, yet simplistic, victory. Kikis, Vizicsacsi and Powerofevil all got 3 or more kills, had complete vision control and used this to drive home to victory.
Week One is over and UOL is 1 for 1 and they have managed to steady their rocky start. With Copenhagen Wolves and Roccat coming up this week, are we going to see UOL push pass the Fnatic barrier and show us team comps not yet conceived or will the curse of fame come back to haunt them? Let’s hope, regardless of what happens, that they continue to entertain us.
