Week 8 ends with relegation for Coast

Team Coast's chances of staying in the NA LCS are officially gone as the team failed yet again to score a victory in the league.

It’s been seven weeks in a row without a victory for Team Coast, which means the Elementz-coached roster won’t be guaranteed a spot in the summer split. The ominous fate of relegation was looming over the team for some weeks now as they struggled to scramble a victory match after match. Although it was fully expected that Coast would be the ones crashing out of the league, this wasn’t mathematically decided until Saturday evening.

Coming into week 8 with 1-13 score, Team Coast needed four wins in a row paired with four losses from one of Winterfox and Dignitas to avoid relegation. The slim chances of that happening were extinguished in the very first W8 game Coast played. In 30 minuts, Impulse scored their ninth victory in the league and showed Coast the door.

Week 8 also saw the much anticipated clash in the grand rivalry between TSM and CLG. The teams were dead even at 11-4 before that point and a win meant the #1 spot in the league coming into week 9. As they walked out triumphant, TSM also look like the favorite to hold the leadership position, having to play the already-relegated Coast on top of third place team Cloud 9.

In Europe, SK Gaming continue to sit atop of the table after they scored two more victories last week, against Giants and Copenhagen Wolves. The race in the top three, however, is as close as it gets as both Fnatic and H2K gaming are tied at 11-5 – just one less win compared to SK – and week 9 matches will be the deciding factor on who gets the top two seeds.

On the bottom of Europe, MYM are desperately fighting to avoid relegation. Weeks 7 and 8 brought them a total of two wins which was more than what Giants pocketed, going 0-4 in their last four matches. This has tied the two teams at 4-12 and week 9 will be important for them as well. MYM are playing SK Gaming and ROCCAT while Giants face Elements and Copenhagen Wolves and one misstep from either team could mean relegation.
