Gamescon Wild Card Event Rundown

A rundown of the teams that competed in the 2014 Gamescon Wild Card Qualifier Event.

Every year, teams from Turkey, Oceania, Russia, Brazil and Latin America get together to compete for the chance to participate in the League of Legends world championships. On Wednesday, August 13, the top teams from Turkey, Oceania, and Russia played double round robin from which the top two teams will move on to the finals. The winner of those finals will be given a chance to compete in the League of Legends world championships.  On August 29th the top teams from Brazil and Latin America will play against each other and the winner will get the second spot in the League of Legends world championships.

Teams that participated in the IWC GamesCom event:

Formerly known as Team Hard Random, Russian Force won the SLTV StarSeries Season X Qualifier tournament three games to two against Virtus.Pro. The roster since then has undergone many changes and only the AD and support roles remain the same.  With the addition of Darker former Gambit Gaming support, Russian Force hoped that his experience in the LCS can translate to a dominant shotcalling voice in the team.

The event began with Russian Force facing off against Legacy Esports. Darker's ziggs proved to be no match for ChuChuZ's Orianna getting solo killed in lane. Russian force fought hard showing that they can win fights but in the end they won zero games with four losses.

Dark Passage (Turkey)

After failing to qualify last year losing to Brazil’s paiN Gaming Dark Passage is back, and they were the clear favorites to win a spot in the League of Legends World Championships. Dark Passage came in first place in every Turkish tournament since last years International Wildcard Tournament. This includes the Championship League winter, spring, summer, and the Riot Season 4 Turkish Championship.

The first match of the tournament spelled disaster for Dark Passage as they lost to Legacy Esports. Dark Passage then came back to win the rest of their games in the round robin event defeating Legacy Esports in the next match between the two teams. This gave Dark Passage a spot in the finals and since they had won against Legacy E-sports in a shorter amount of time they were given first place coming out of the round robin stage into the final best of 5 against Legacy Esports.

In the finals, Dark Passage went off, winning the series 3-0. FabFabulous' Nidalee went 7/2/9 the first game and 10/1/4 the third game along with Naru who played a strong Twisted Fate the first game helping the team to gain map control and then assumed the hard carry role in the later two games going 10/1/2 as zed and 6/0/0 as Fizz.

Legacy Esports (Oceania)

After upsetting Team Immunity in the 2014 Oceania Winter Regionals final, Legacy Esports, formerly known as Avant Garde, qualified for the International Wildcard Tournament.  Legacy Esports has kept the most consistent roster of any of the three teams in this tournament. With Dark Passage changing their support recently and Russian Force changing out their top, jungle, and mid lane positions from the roster that originally won the qualifier, Legacy Esports can rely on their team synergy to back up their aggressive play.

Legacy Esports started out the tournament strong winning a game against the favorited Dark Passage. EGym landed multiple three man knockups as Allistar setting up Cardrid to go 9/1/9 on Kog'Maw and shred through the enemy team in the late game. Legacy won their two matches against Russian Force, but then lost a game to Dark Passage. In the finals agaisnt Dark Passage, they lost all three of the games but they showed that their region is getting a lot stronger and will continue to be a contender at the International Wildcard Tournaments in the future.
