Riot's new system for banning those reported for toxicity automatically has been met by outcries from players who claim too many will be affected. RiotLyte debunked the myth.
On July 21st, Riot Lyte, Social Systems Designer for Riot Games, announced a pilot program in which any player displaying extreme toxicity for the day would receive a ban.
Today, players that show extreme toxicity (intentional feeding or racism, etc) will be instantly 14-day or permabanned in #LeagueOfLegends

This sparked a fair amount of outcry from players, and many postulated that affected players would be a very large number. To counter this, today Riot Lyte posted on the General Discussion forum that only 1% of players are chat-restricted, and players affected by bans are a much smaller number.
Whether this is a justification that the policy only targets a very extreme portion of the player base or if this was meant to debunk the myth that Riot is overzealous in dishing out punishment is unclear. Still, many were surprised to hear that players affected by chat restriction represented such a small percentage of the player base.
