The Good, the Bad, and the Weird: Week 7

As the LCS approaches playoffs, we're seeing our fair share of teams step to the plate or succumb to the pressure. This week had plenty of good and bad moments, plus a smattering of strange picks as teams try to shake things up.

The Good:

Naehyun is no longer winless

You had to feel bad for Naehyun. He hadn't seen a single game win on the professional stage, reaching all the way back to his stint in the LCK back in 2016, and Origen's terrible performance so far this year left him winless as well. However, it was against ROCCAT in week 7 that OG finally managed to put it all together and pick up a game win, finally snapping Naehyun's losing streak. Gotta feel good about that.

NA standings get all shaken up

Going into week 7, we all thought we knew how the teams were going to break down going into playoffs. After week 7's games though, we now know nothing. Cloud 9 dropped out of first place, Dignitas continue to try and fight for a playoff spot, and FlyQuest keep falling, leading to questions about who's actually going to make it to the bracket. Week 8 should be interesting to watch.

The Bad:

OG vs ROC was sheer torture

Naehyun may have gotten his first game win, but the OG/ROC series was one of the worst matches ever played in professional League of Legends history - especially game 1. Origen's overly cautious play was matched only by ROCCAT's refusal to do anything but try not to lose the game, resulting in a 77-minute slog of a game. Teamfights were few and far between, and no less than five Barons and four Elder Dragons were taken by Origen in an attempt to close out the game.

IMT Baron throws

Throwing at Baron isn't an uncommon occurance, but it's rare that a team makes the mistake twice in one game. Immortals, unfortunately, were one such team. They make the first Baron call at 25:10 on the game clock, only to get aced by TSM and have the buff stolen away by Svenskeren. Then, at 33:35, IMT find a pick onto Svenskeren and WildTurtle and go for Baron again - only to get annihilated by Bjergsen's Ryze and Hauntzer's Gragas. Just turn and fight, guys - that buff doesn't mean a thing if you don't live long enough to use it.

The Weird:

C9 pick Jayce ADC

Cloud 9 is known as a team that innovates, but Jayce ADC was a weird pick even for them. Sure, he went positive with a 4/2/9 KDA, but C9's lack of consistent, ranged damage led to their downfall against Counter Logic Gaming. Why C9 didn't just pick Ashe or Jhin is perplexing, to say the least.

Moon's Shaco

Albert Einstein once said that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results was the definition of insanity - and if that's true, Moon is certifiably insane. His Shaco pick earlier in the split went horribly awry for FlyQuest, but the squad decided to bring it out again this week. Surprise surprise - Moon did terribly and FlyQuest lost the game. The decision to pick the Demon Jester again after it proved to be ineffective just boggles the mind.
