G2 stymies Origen en route to first EU LCS Championship?
G2 eSports conquered Origen this weekend off the back of a standout performance from Luka "Perkz" Perkovic. G2's run through playoffs coincided with the first time that Fnatic did not participate in the EU LCS finals (although Enrique "xPeke" Cedeño still has perfect attendance). Speaking of which, xPeke was subbed into Game 4 of this series, to no avail. G2 eSports go from challenger to champions in a single split, 3-1.
CLG defends North American LCS crown
The "NA LCS Scripted" memes flowed freely as regular season duds Team SoloMid scrapped their way past heavy favorites Cloud 9 and Immortals en route to a finals rematch against rivals Counter Logic Gaming. Though TSM's miracle run took them past some of NA's premier talent, they couldn't finish the sprint, and CLG defended their NA crown, punching their ticket to MSI.
NRG eSports top laner and former world champion Jeong "Impact" Eon-jeong was rumored to be in touch with NA mainstay Cloud 9 about a potential trade or signing. Such a transaction would cause Cloud 9 to exceed their import limit, meaning that Cloud 9 would run a platoon style roster bringing back William "Meteos" Hartman to run the jungle with Impact in top lane. An "Balls" Le and Lee "Rush" Yoon-jae would make up the other top/jungle option for Cloud 9 should this deal go through.
Qiao Gu Reapers fail to field a Mid laner, forfeit semifinal match
EDward Gaming earned perhaps the easiest berth in an LPL final after the Qiao Gu Reapers failed to field a Mid laner following a suspension for Kim "Doinb" Tae-sang and an injury to Huang "Mortred" Zikun. The 3rd placed overall Chinese team forfeited their matchup with EDG and played sub Rui "Peco" Yu against Team World Elite in their 3rd place matchup, where they were swept 3-0.
EDward Gaming will face off against Royal Never Give Up in the finals.
