LPL Spring Quarterfinal Recap: Edward Gaming vs. Snake eSports

Game 1

The first game began with a lane swap, which would usually spell success for Snake. However, EDG would take early control and never lose it over the course of the game. After escaping a gank from Zeng "ZZR" Zhan-Ran, Tong "Koro1" Yang would teleport back into the Top Lane and counter with Ming "ClearLove" Kai, giving EDG First Blood. Although both teams ran double teleport compositions, EDG made much better use of theirs as Koro1 and Heo "PawN" Won-seok repeatedly countered aggressive teleports from Snake with their own teleports, allowing their team to come out on top in multiple skirmishes. EDG would seize control of vision as they continued to take objectives on the map and eventually attempted a two-man baron with Clearlove and PawN. Snake would find the couple and chased EDG out of the pit before taking control of it themselves. However, due to a teleport flank from PawN’s Ekko, EDG collapsed onto Snake and won a team fight giving them the Baron. Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu was phenomenal in this game on Lucian as he expertly maneuvered in team fights outputting damage, often escaping with very low life. The Baron power play would make EDG’s gold lead nearly insurmountable and at the next dragon fight they would clean up four kills losing only one. With only Li "Flandre" Xuan-jun left to defend, Snake could not hold them off and EDG would claim game one.

Game 2

Snake would give up an early advantage almost immediately in this game as Yang "kRYST4L" Fan was caught at level 1 and stunned by EDG due to the Tian "Meiko" Ye’s Braum passive. EDG would take the First Blood and a few minutes later pick up two more kills with a four-man tower dive in the Top Lane. Once again, EDG would use their early game victories to seize control of the map as they were very proactive in their rotations, securing multiple objectives. As the third Dragon was about to spawn, Snake would attempt a team fight in the Mid Lane, but EDG would turn and win the fight. Picking up the ace while only losing their support, EDG would claim the baron and continue to pressure all lanes. The Baron buff allowed EDG to split push, forcing Snake to make some difficult decisions. Snake chose to collapse and kill Koro1’s Ekko in the Top Lane, but this allowed the rest of EDG to claim the bottom inhibitor as well as the inner Mid turret. After Koro1’s respawn, EDG would claim the two remaining Top Lane turrets. Flandre would try to push out the Top Lane but got caught overextending, allowing EDG to take the Top inhibitor and eventually the game.

Game 3

After settling into standard lanes, Snake would finally make gains in the early game as they picked up three kills in the Bot Lane from a four-man tower dive. EDG would answer quickly however, as kryst4l would die in a 2v2 fight in the Bot Lane. A roam from PawN’s Fizz would get EDG a second kill onto Kwak "Ella" Na-hoon who was trapped under his turret. Snake attempted to contest EDG’s blue buff but it would result in the death of Park "TANK" Dan-won as EDG were right there to answer. A gank into the Mid Lane would lead to two more kills as Clearlove and PawN picked up TANK and moved into Snake’s jungle to kill ZZR as well. Clearlove continued his movement into the Bot Lane along with a teleport from Koro1 helped net another kill. The AD Carries would duel in the Bot Lane with Deft coming out on top and both teams would join in starting a skirmish. EDG would lose Deft but would pick up two more kills, winning the exchange. EDG’s duo lane would secure the Bot Lane turret allowing them to rotate up and pressure Mid. Clearlove would catch Flandre alone coming down the river from Top, and EDG would kill him and try to dive the Mid lane turret. However, they would go too far and lose Koro1 and Meiko, allowing Snake to push back and take the EDG Mid turret. The two teams would trade turrets back and forth until Snake got caught out of position in the Top Lane due to some fantastic rotations from EDG. EDG would pick up three kills with no deaths in the team fight and secure themselves the Baron. The buff allowed EDG to take Snake’s Mid and Bot inhibitors, although they would lose Koro1 on the exit. With so much lane pressure in Mid and Bot, EDG would set up for the next Baron, pick up an ace in the last team fight and close out the game completing the series sweep.
