BlizzCon - one of the most awaited events for 2005, just announced the winner of the BlizzCon Starcraft map contest. Five maps were chosen to be played on during BlizzCon Gaming Festival and here you are.

Everyone had the possibility to be part of BlizzCon Gaming Festival by submitting a map on which the chosen players of the Starcraft world will play on, many were sent but only five maps finally got a spot in the mappool. Several rules were given to the map creators before, five judges were chosen, representing different parts of the world and different parts of the StarCraft community as they were :

» Matt Morris – Senior Level Designer at Blizzard Entertainment
» Peter "Legionnaire" Neate – recently retired professional gamer from Australia
» Taylor "Mora" Fales – Canadian author of two Blizzard Mystery-Map Invitational maps including Coullee
» Tom "FroZ" Whittier – past United States representative at World Cyber Games
» Seong "Enough" Jun-Mo – former Korean professional gamer and staff at FighterForum.com

As stated on the official BlizzCon homepage a huge amount of maps were sent, a small internal team started to remove those maps which were not compatible to the rules or looked promising for funny games on Battle.Net; but not for a serious event, such as BlizzCon. After testing for several rounds the amount of maps was reduced down to 45 maps, time for the five judges to estimate and rate the maps in three tiers of quality : Upper tier giving the map two points, middle tier one point and the lowest tier dealed zero points. And finally five maps made it through all the testing, beeing ready for BlizzCon.
