#1, free accounts get access to a rotating hero pool of 15 heroes. They can unlock heroes by buying them in the store for 250 gold or 350 silver (so I heard, haven't verified those numbers).
Also, free accounts do not have unlimited access to all matchmaking types/modes.
Current owners of the game got upgraded to legacy -> full access to the general hero pool, option to play 'verified only' matchmaking (only with verified players, i.e. those that have spent at least $30 in the store OR reached level 5).
Additionally, they added 'early access' to the shop, where some heroes are put in. They can be bought with gold coins and then users can play that hero before it is officially released to the public (monkey king, for example, came out as 'early access'. For 250 gold coins, you could unlock him. He will be added to the general hero pool in about a month, on the 26th of August or such).
It is NOT a limited period of F2P. It's permanent, and they've significantly changed the setup of their game to support that. |
