Intel Extreme Masters European Championship Preview

Some big names fall in the European Championship Round in Season V of the Intel Extreme Masters

With the qualification rounds already over for Season V, the European Championship will take six groups of four to determine who will be allowed into the European Championship finals, where 12 players will attempt to dominate in the offline finals taking place in 2011.

Thus far two rounds have been played in Groups A through D, along with the first round in Group F, with the second one scheduled for later today. These matches will continue through until the 25th of November, when the 12 players who qualify will be determined. The winner and the runner-up from each group will be moving on.

Here are the current brackets for the championships:

IEM European Championships
Group A Matches Group B Matches
KaS 1/0/0 Socke 1/0/0
Tarson 1/0/0 MorroW 1/0/0
jimpo 0/0/1 ServaNt 0/0/1
HasuObs 0/0/1 PredY 0/0/1
Group C Matches Group D Matches
Naama 1/0/0 merz 1/0/0
SjoW 1/0/0 KroLu 1/0/0
Skruf 0/0/1 DeMusliM 0/0/1
SaJeR 0/0/1 Dimaga 0/0/1
Group E Matches Group F Matches

GoOdy 0/0/0 Cloud 0/0/1
Sarens 0/0/0 roxkisBratOK 0/0/0
Nbs 0/0/0 NrtDeathAngel 0/0/0

In a tournament filled with so many big names, most of the matches have been 2-0 victories, with only jimpo, skruf, and ServaNt being able to take games off of their opponents. Most surprising though is #30 Dimaga being taken out by #131 KroLu in a clean 2-0 sweep, something uncharacteristic for the Ukrainian Zerg.

More matches will be played in the next few weeks, so be sure to check back in with GosuGamers to see the results.
