Cats Gaming has been the standout team of the CIS region for the past year with three consecutive G1-Series tournament championships and appearances at DreamHack Winter 2012 and the Garena Star League 2013. Now the team barely avoided a disaster in the latest edition of the prestigious G1-Spring.
The DreamHack festivities are a stable on the HoN calender ever since the early stages of the game. Every year the MOBA game from S2 was present at the large LAN event in Jönköping, Sweden - no other this year. Today the first qualified team secured their ticket - the Thai team Yamaha.s2y.

A couple of days have passed since S2 Games and their flagship game Heroes of Newerth had their triumphant event in Las Vegas, Nevada – the HoN Tour Finals. What was hyped to be almost like the emperor marching into Rome became a disaster and received media backlash from sources that have long dropped HoN.
A total of eight matches have been played on the last 5 days of intense SoundBlaster Heroes League competition. The tournament with a stunning prize pool of $30,000 USD in cash is now going into the final stage with four teams left to fight. Those four teams are the very best Heroes of Newerth has to offer currently with the dominant Stay Green, their rivals in Trademark eSports and compLexity Gaming as well as the "newcomers" to the elite teams Lions eSports. Only one of them will become the first SoundBlaster Heroes League Champion. Only one will walk away with $12,000 USD in cash!
All 20 matches have been played, all ten teams got a chance to showcase their skills. Now, the best 20 players and four teams get a chance to compete for the grand prize of $32,000 USD and the prestige of becoming the World Champion of HoN. A complete pool of $60,000 USD is waiting for the remaining teams, featuring a Malaysian team for the very first time in DreamHon history. The other three are the usual suspects with the Americans from Tt eSports and compLexity Gaming, plus the European powerhouse of Trademark eSports.

Having already qualified for the Fnatic BEAT it DreamHack qualifier, we decided to ask Kyle ‘Swindlemelonzz’ Freedman about what he thought of the current status of the Heroes of Newerth competitive scene, in regards to balance, top 10 teams, and the game as a whole as well as its place in the MOBA genre.
