Week in and week out, teams will fight to move up in the standings and secure their spot in the Open Division playoffs, along with a chance to play in the HGC Premier League. With this phase, the top eight will move to the playoffs, so now more than ever every ingle cup is important.
Around 20 teams are signed up and ready to face off in this third North American Open Division Cup. We’re just about halfway through this phase already, but there is still time to sign up and compete! Wrack up points in every cup and climb the standings to the top eight to advance to the playoffs. The top two from the playoffs will then play the two lowest HGC Premier League teams for their chance at taking their spot going into 2018.
Hold it Down currently sit at the top of the standings with 210 points, from placing second in the first cup, and first in the second cup. The will return to this third cup tournament, but will be missing some of their fiercest competition. No sign of Players Unknown or Firm Handshake coming into this cup. Players Unknown was sitting pretty at the second place in the standings from winning the first cup and placing fourth in the second cup, but we don’t see any sign of them going into tonight, as it seems the team has split up. Firm Handshake is another team we’ve seen make waves in other amateur tournaments lately, and while they only sit at seventh place, they seemed to be a team of strong promise. However, it seems they will not be participating in this cup as well.
With seemingly two spots in the top eight now open, both Imported Support and Donkeys R Us return hoping to place a little higher this week. Donkeys R Us has been stuck in third place in both the first and second cup, and with a fewer number of teams participating this week, they’re eyes are set on that first place win.
Today at 18:00 PDT the next seven weeks of amateur North American competitive Heroes begins as teams hunger for a spot in the HGC Premier League.
