North American Open Division Playoff Preview

As the seven weeks of North American Open Division have come to a close, the top 16 teams will battle for one of the two spots in The Crucible over the course of May 27th-28th. There, they will have the chance to play against the bottom two teams in the HGC Premier League for a chance at taking their spot.

As you can see, Two spots in the bracket have not been filled out due to six teams all tieing for 15th/16th place. These teams will play in a best of one series Monday before the playoffs start to determine the final two teams into the bracket.

All games up until the semifinals will be best of three, while the semifinals and finals will be best of five matches. While the top two teams will advance to The Crucible, the overall winner of the playoffs will get to choose which of the bottom two HGC Premier League teams they will face.

Teams to Watch:

LFM- LFM has been a name fairly familiar in amateur Heroes for some time now and throughout the Open Division they’ve made sure it stays that way. They’re atop the standings for a reason as they’ve competed in all seven open division cups, with three cups wins, two of those agains the second seeded Imported Support. While they will most certainly make a good running in the Open Division playoffs, do they have what it takes to excel in the Crucible?

Imported Support- As a former professional team themselves, Imported Support is no stranger to high competition as they competed in the second North American Fall Regional back in 2016. But with FZignition as the only player from the old roster, Imported has still been able to earn a spot in five cup semifinals and squeeze away with two cup wins.

UT-A- While multiple members of UT-A’s roster have said they plan on going their separate ways, the roster of kladeous, Yuuj, frosty, EKevin and EToby will still be competing in the Open Division playoffs. As one of the earliest top contenders in the Open Division, they only hold two cup wins, earning at least fourth place in the remainder of the cups they competed in. While they are still a force to be reckoned with, they’ve fell fairly short in the last half of the Open Division and while the future of the roster in question, these playoffs might be a deciding factor in the future of the UT-A team.

Even in Death- Another very familiar name to the amateur esports scene with players like Batterry and FrozenX, Even in Death has made a solid showing through the North American Open Division. Their progression has been obvious as they’ve reached at least the quarterfinals in five cups and even the finals in one. While they don’t have a cup win under their belts, Even in Death certainly has the potential to make a strong showing in the playoffs.
