ANZ regional finals to be played this weekend

Familiar faces under a new name, Nomia is looking to continue where they left off last year by dominating the ANZ scene.

After a month of competitive play split over two separate qualifiers, the top four teams in the region have been determined. They will be competing in the ANZ finals on February 18 to find out who will represent the region in the first of the Western Clashes.

The Gamestah run qualifier was a four week long league where the top two teams at the end would be the first to qualify for the finals:

The list of teams look different to those from last year, but once you start looking at the rosters, these results make a lot more sense.

Nomia came into the first week as the team to beat, as they have Fat94 (formerly Benjamin94) and Robadobah, two names that dominated the ANZ scene for all of last year. Arcaner came in for the fall season last year, and now they have John and Vanilla, two high ranking players in the scene to round out the roster.

Sweet Dreams doesn't have the same level of international experience that Nomia has, but have proven that they have what it takes. With names like Laharl and Penta, the roster is made up of players that have consistently been a step or two behind the leaders, but have some room to grow.

This can also be said for the two teams that made it out of the ANZ Heroes qualifier. Both SASSU and Plantronics Nv (Team Nv from the Gamestah leaderboard) are filled with players that continue to make it to the top four, but no further. In the one day tournament, SASSU seemingly breezed through the winners bracket to be the first of the two to qualify, with Plantronics Nv needing a lower bracket run to qualify after dropping to SASSU early.

Nomia will be coming into the weekend as the favourites, with the other teams needing to step up their game if they want to be the ones to upset the balance and represent ANZ at the Western Clash.

All will be settled February 18, starting at 11am AEDT, with the stream over at the BlizzHeroes twitch channel
