Chu8 steps away from Team 8 to be replaced by Prismaticism, following his disagreement about taking HGC seriously.
Rocky start for the North American HGC
Chu8 has been banned from participating in HGC 2017, as a result of leaving Team 8 after qualifying for HGC 2017. Blizzard's competitive ruling regarding Chu8 can be found here.
This comes as a disappointment but not a surprise - Chu8 has stated that he wanted to focus on streaming on more than one occasion. He likely went into the qualifiers hoping to earn another $20,000 and compete at a professional level, without investing the time required to contend with the best teams in North America. When Chu8 realized that competing in HGC would significantly cut into his streaming time, he chose to part ways with the team to allow a more dedicated player to take his place.
Here's what he had to say about it, courtesy of a reddit comment:
There is no juicy drama here, boys. But here's what happened in a nutshell.
"I made sure to let everyone know that I want this team to take more of a casual approach to the tournament. However, when we did qualify and things got more serious, we could not agree on the level of commitment we want to make as a team, mostly because of me wanting to focus on my stream. Since some members of the team strongly expressed their pursuit for HGC, it was clear to me there are more complications here than I expected. I coulda been a douche and just rake in the $$ while forcing a bad practice schedule and toxic team environment, but that's not me. This is the best decision for all. Good luck to the team going forward."
The train keeps rolling
The HGC continues on regardless of the successes of Chu8 or his former team. What is more unsure is; was Chu8's decision the right one? Only time will tell.
