The Gold Club World Championship Global Wildcard has begun

MVP Miracle and Tempest from Korea, Imperium Pro Team from Southeast Asia and Team Face Check from Taiwan are competing for a spot in the Gold Club World Championship Main event.

Why isn't Fnatic or Misfits competing?

The Global Wildcard is an online qualifier for the offline main event.  Fnatic and Misfits would face significant ping if they tried to play from Europe while the server is in Asia.  As for why the teams didn't physically go to Asia to compete in the online qualifier, I can only surmise that the teams weren't willing to make a trip to China just for the slim possibility of qualifying for the main event, as there is only one spot up for grabs and they would also be up against Korean teams.

Who's on Tempest

With Tempo Storm disbanded, everyone was surprised to see this name from Korea competing in the Global Wildcard.  Hide and Lockdown are back with a new roster, although Hide has switched roles from support to flex.  Modernlife is the new roster's support player, while Hooligan has stepped in to main tank.  From what I understand, the fifth player who will play the melee assassin/bruiser role isn't exactly decided yet, with a temporary player (not sure who as the name was in Korean) has stepped in for this qualifier.

Who's Team Face Check

Team Face Check is the 2nd place Taiwanese finisher in the Fall Taiwan regional.  They held a 3-1 lead over Please Buff Arthas before collapsing.  Please Buff Arthas isn't competing in this event because there's going to be a roster shakeup, thanks to college entrance examinations and military service.

MVP Miracle and Imperium Pro Team

MVP Miracle is the third place finisher in the Heroes of the Storm Super League - Season 3 (which was the Korean Fall Regional) and Imperium Pro Team was the Southeast Asia representative at BlizzCon.

The Qualifier Format and Results so far

The qualifier is a Round Robin, which means that every team will play every other team in one best of 3 match.  The team with the best match record qualifies for the Gold Club World Championship main event.

Results so far:

MVP Miracle defeats Tempest 2-1

Imperium Pro Team defeats Team Face Check 2-0

Tempest defeats Imperium Pro Team 2-0

This means that MVP Miracle will be the prohibitive favorite to claim the wild card, as they should be able to beat Imperium Pro Team and Team Face Check without too much difficulty.

The remaining qualifier matches will be streamed on this clean feed (no english cast), which should resume at 1 am PDT/10 am CET tomorrow.  This is also the likely stream for the main event unless Blizzard provides an English cast.
