8 teams will compete a week before BlizzCon for a chance to place in the 2nd group stage. Once there, the battle for the playoffs begins.
There is a lot of buzz about the upcoming BlizzCon matches coming up this Wednesday, so here is a quick rundown of what you need to know:
Group Stage 1 - October 27-28th
-- 8 Teams
-- Double Elimination Groups (GSL format)
-- 2 Groups of 4
-- 2 teams from both groups advance to Group Stage 2
The 8 teams playing in this first group stage are fighting for a chance to meet the 4 pre-seeded teams in group stage 2:
Group Stage 2 - October 29th
-- 4 pre-seeded + 4 Group Stage 1 teams
-- Double Elimination Groups (GSL format)
-- 2 Groups of 4
-- 2 teams from both groups advance to the playoffs
With the 4 teams determined from Group 1 meeting the pre-seeds, 8 teams will play in a double elimination group stage. The 4 teams in waiting are as follows:
Playoffs - November 4-5th
-- 4 teams
-- Single Elimination
-- Semi Finals are Best-of-3
-- Grand Final is a Best-of-5
And finally, the playoffs. Only 4 teams will play here and two will emerge on the grand final stage, where they will fight for the world championship title.
