In the most anticipated group stage match of the Korean Super League, Spring World Champions MVP Black faced their first real test in the promising up-and-comers L5.

In a thrilling series that went the distance, MVP Black squeaked by L5 with a 3-2 victory. Although MVP Black took early control of the series going up 2-0, L5 suddenly awakened and took the next two games to even the series. In the final game, however, MVP Black showed their experience and composure with a dominant and decisive victory.

You can watch the match here.

Led by two former TNL players Noblesse and sCsC, L5 made an immediate impact in the Korean eSports scene by recently defeating reigning champions Tempo Storm in the winners’ finals of Korea’s Power League. However, in their last twenty games against MVP Black, Noblesse and sCsC had not won a single one.

While L5 showed tremendous promise in Power League, MVP Black did not even participate due to fatigue. They made their return in Super League, dominating White Water. Although their victory was straight-forward, MVP Black’s match against L5 would be the true test to see whether the former champions had returned to their former strength.

In game 1 on Towers of Doom, MVP Black’s Rich finally unveiled his renowned Medivh. L5 controlled the early game, but MVP Black’s Li-Ming tilted the later team fights in MVP Black’s favor. While not contributing much early, Medivh provided constant harassment and landed several critical Force of Wills towards the later stages of game.

While game 1 was competitive, MVP Black took advantage of L5’s poor draft and dominated game 2. MVP Black used Illidan and a Mind Control Sylvanas to fend off L5’s Tracer.

Down 0-2, L5 gained new life and retaliated with two very convincing victories on Infernal Shrines and Sky Temple. In game 3, L5 controlled every Punisher. In game 4, L5 controlled the team fights and out-rotated MVP Black. With the two victories, L5 was one game away from their biggest win yet.

However, MVP Black was not fazed. In the final game on Battlefield of Eternity, MVP Black drafted Greymane, Sylvanas, and Arthas. As a result, they controlled every Immortal. With Sylvanas’s aid, MVP Black easily escorted their Immortal to L5’s core and abruptly won the game in less than eight minutes.

With the victory, MVP Black secured the #1 seed for Group B. As a result, they will again face Tempo Storm in a rematch of the Summer Global Championship finals. Meanwhile, L5 will face the winner of White Water and First Family to decide who will play MVP Miracle in the other winners’ semifinals.
