There is no "I" in team: a phrase Blizzard used today in revealing their new MVP system that, ironically, aims at rewarding the individual for their performance at the end of the game. It's no secret that Heroes of the Storm is an extremely team oriented game, and the hardest selling point to some is the lack of individual carry or playmaking ability

However, the recent hero releases and now this MVP system are showing signs of a shift in design philosophy. Blizzard seems to be rewarding individual skill more and more and . Even with the latest mount speed changes , are trying to make individual decisions matter more.

What is this system?

The new MVP system is pretty self-explanatory. At the end of the game, you have the option to vote for both allies and enemy with the purpose of commending individual performance. Players are given unique awards as seen above that seem to nominate them for the overall MVP award. Some of the distinguishing titles we know so far are as follows:

  • Headhunter – Most Mercenary camps captured.
  • Bulwark – Most damage taken by a Warrior Hero.
  • Cannonneer – Most Core damage done on Towers of Doom.
  • Moneybags –  Most coins turned in on Blackheart’s Bay.
  • Stunner – Longest combined Stun time against enemy Heroes.
  • Painbringer- See above image
  • Dominator- See above image
  • Siege Master - See above image

Like the recent overhaul to the Hero League system, the MVP awards aim to make the overall Heroes experience better. Not through balance or new content, but by improving the environment and system that players interact with every day. At this time, we do not know if the MVP system will actually reward anything tangible. For now, it looks like players will be fighting for pride and bragging rights.
