DreamHack Winter: What has happened and whats to come

For those who missed it, but are excited to watch day 2 of the DreamHack Winter All-Stars: Winter Clash, read on to prepare yourself for today.

Yesterday, eight top European teams played their first matches in one of the biggest LAN events since BlizzCon. Dignitas, mYinsanity, ROCCAT and TCM-Gaming battled each other in Group A, after which it was Fnatic, Team Liquid, G2 and Virtus.Pro's turn to make it happen in Group B.

While Dignitas' preparation for this tournament was less than ideal, they still managed to use the individual quality of their players to win both of their games. However, Group B is arguably the more stacked group and so their hardest matches are still to come in the playoffs. mYinsanity was called the strongest team by a lot of the players, but had to give over a win against ROCCAT. This leaves both ROCCAT and mYinsanity with 1 win and 1 loss each, meaning they will be playing the deciding match for Group A at the start of today's broadcast. While ROCCAT won this matchup 2-1 yesterday, it was so close that all bets are off for today.

In Group B, four original European powerhouses battled it out. Fnatic showed that their efforts to build a new roster as soon as possible paid off, with the team comfortably winning both their games. Team Liquid and G2 both won half their games, and thus have to play in the decider today. However, this matchup was also played yesterday and was rather convincingly won by Team Liquid. G2 will have to step up their game to qualify for the playoffs.

In the playoffs, Dignitas and Fnatic will be playing against the winners of the decider matches. Dignitas can meet either TL or G2 in the semi-finals, and Fnatic will be facing mYi or ROCCAT. The playoffs consist of Bo5's only, in a single elimination bracket. While yesterday was a long day full of matches, today has that potential as well. But it is all worth it, because the champions of the Winter Clash will go home with $12,500 USD!
