With Gamescom coming up, Blizzard is already starting to tease us. And I love it.
The above screen shows what, since about a day ago, the Heroes of the Storm homepage looks like. Point of interest being the purple claw marks on the sides. While I am personally mostly annoyed by the difference in height between the claw marks, a normal person might actually be more interested in what these claw marks mean. They are clearly teasing something. Diving a little bit into the page source even tells us that these images are situated in the 'teaser' map. Hype? Hype!
So what can we say about this teaser? Well, it probably does not reference the well-known upcoming arrival of the Monk in the Nexus. Monks are, of course, best known for clipping their nails. And we really dont need another reason to get excited about the release of another support hero anyway. Another hero we know is in the works is Rexxar, our Champion of the Horde. As a beastmaster, he is of course more than capable of spawning beasts with impressive claws. And who doesnt love the Hunter class in all Blizzard Games? Kappa.
But Rexxar is not part of the Diablo universe, nor is the traditional Hunter Class. And surely our Eternal Conflict has not quite ended? We still need to get at least a second map after all.
So with that in mind (and with a little bit of help from reddit), there is another likely lead. The claw marks might not directly refer to an animal, but to a move that Blizzard loves: Swipe. As a Druid spell in World of Warcraft, as well as in Hearthstone, this little teaser might hint at the release of (another) Druid. Though most likely from the warcraft universe, there is still a slim chance it might be a Diablo druid.
Hype for swipe? Maybe. An announcement regarding this teaser will almost assuredly be made on August 8th during Gamescom.
EDIT: Rexxar is playable at Gamescom, confirmed to be the next hero after Monk.
