2ARC gaming is using an unheard-of strategy to hard counter Illidan lineups

Pyroblast, Sanctification, Hinterlands blast and Divine Storm turned some heads, and won one of the most absurd games in recent tournament memory.

Match start at 16:50 - 2ARC vs Down To Fight

The first Level 10 team fight against Down to Fight look very bad for 2ARC. Despite their unique combo being executed in what appeared to be a near perfect situation they ended up getting completely team wiped. Santification negated the damage of Metamorphosis, Pyroblast was safely cast on Illidan, and Divine Storm stunned multiple heroes- but none of that mattered. They lost bottom shrine without netting a single hero kill.

But as the game progressed, things started looking different. Team fight after team fight, Sanctification negated more and more AoE damage (on a 50 second cool down + battle momentum, it was available constantly) and the combined AoE burst heroics from Falstad, Uther, and Kael'thas proved extremely deadly. There was even a moment where Illidan was forced to zone himself out of the fight just to avoid his team taking damage from Pyroblast. All of the sudden, the team composition that looked straight out of the talent gates looked like a real, no joke hard counter to Illidan in a team fight.

Watch the games your self and see how much damage Tyrael is nets using his Archangel's Wrath trait. Sanctification ensures his death first, allowing his trait to actually serve as some impressive AoE burst damage. It synergizes very well with the massive AoE lineup, especially on a map like Sky Temple where clumped up team fights are inevitable.

Match Start at 1:45:00 - 2ARC vs Kappa Wolves.

Later in that same tournament, 2ARC played another game on Sky Temple and, you guessed it, went the exact same line up against another Illidan composition. This time, it was against Kappa Wolves and 2ARC, having lost the early game, needed to make some adjustment. Uther took Divine Shield instead of Divine Storm, but even that didn't seem to help. The early game dominance of Muradin and Illidan was on full display.

Honestly, you just have to watch this game. I don't want to spoil it. Did this actually happen? Was this strategy actually used against an Illidan composition twice in the same tournament? Back to back?

Day 1 of the Heroes Hype Challenger series is over for now, so be sure to check out day 2 on Wedneday, 6pm PST casted by Gillyweed and AnnaProsser. I hope to see more of 2ARC's unnique lineups, but their next match against the new and improved Cloud 9 Maelstrom might call for something a little more standard.
