Team Liquid Wins PGL Spring Champions of the Storm

Team Liquid beat Gamers2 in a rematch 3-1, taking the PGL Spring Title.

Earlier in the day Gamers2 defeated SK Gaming 3-1 to set up a rematch in the Grand Finals. As Liquid won the Winner's Bracket, they had a 1-0 lead entering the Grand Finals.

The first time these teams met, Gamers2 lost 3-0 but steadily got better against Liquid. In the first actual match of the series, Gamer2 carried the momentum, running a versatile lineup of Lost Vikings, Sylvannas, and Zeratul. Liquid's counter of Sgt. Hammer and Valla were not able to effectively stop Gamers2 push strategy.

In Games 3 & 4, Liquid followed their trademark skill of splitting the map, controlling lanes and sneaking mercenary camps. They went Sylvannas in both victories with Blackscorp's (growing) legendary Illidan delivering the victory in pivotal Game 4.

There were some interesting trends in terms of hero picks in the series. Liquid banned Abathur every game, even when they ran their Illidan lineup in game 4. Gamers2 meanwhile banned Uther in two of three games. Lost Vikings, the most popular hero in PGL, was naturally picked every game. Throughout the entire tournament, it was clear that teams fear Lost Vikings prowess and push ability. As big patches are expected in the coming months, we'll see if any changes comes to the relatively new hero.

Congratulations to Liquid on their victory and cementing their status as the best team in Europe. Check out our match tracker for the full hero selections and VODs (when posted) here.

What questions might we ask? No idea, but we will be sure to entertain.
