Gamers2: "Anything can happen at a LAN tournament"

We caught up with Szychu and leofromkorea from Gamers2 after their 3:1 turnaround victory against SK Gaming. We discussed their preparation for the tournament, how they feel about the current balance of the game and their expectations of an eventual clash with Team Liquid.

The interview started by discussing their preparation coming to the tournament. Szychu shared that they had a 4 day bootcamp in Poznan where they adhered to a 10-12 hour training schedule per day. This bootcamp is the first time they met as a team, although Szychu has met with leofromkorea and Nicker prior to this in their League of Legends times.

When questioned about their strengths as a team, leofromkorea shared that he considers the 3 of them knowing each other and having LAN experience together is definetely a strength. On the other hand he pointed to adrd and Jowe's lack of experience as a possible weakness. "The problem for us is that even though we bootcamped for 4 days, a 7 day bootcamp would have been better." We also learned that during the bootcamp the team came up with new tactics and even some special ones from adrd's side.

We also asked them about their opinion on the state of the game and maps like "Haunted Mines" and "Tomb of the Spider Queen" which are hated by most teams. According to Szychu those maps are balanced and the snowball is not that hard. He feels however that "Cursed Hollow" is a problematic map with the random tribute spawns. leofromkorea added that on Cursed Hollow and "Blackeart's Bay" it is extremely hard to catch up as the team that is ahead can just take control of the objective and beat you without fighting: "Since you've got some advantage, you get advantage on positioning, for example on "Cursed Hollow" you get advantage on positioning around the tributes and you can snowball the game without having to fight."

"They play very solid, they have good rotations, they help each other and are overall good solo queue players. If we play our game we should be able to beat them".

We also discussed the upcoming release of Heroes of the Storm on the 2nd of June. According to leofromkorea the game is fine and the main problem right now is the matchmaking system, occasionally matching rank 1 players with rank 50 players. He expects however that with the game opening on 19th of May more players will come in and this issue will be fixed. Szychu pointed to the need of more champions and bans in the Team League queue. Overall the guys think Blizzard is doing a great job.

The last point we covered is Gamers2's struggles against Team LiquidSzychu pointed out that Liquid have very good drafting and this is the biggest issue when facing them. According to leofromkorea Liquid also demonstrates very good teamplay and synergy which makes them a dangerous opponent to face. "They play very solid, they have good rotations, they help each other and are overall good solo queue players. If we play our game we should be able to beat them".

Finally, the guys commented on the other games saying that they are hoping Fnatic wins against Liquid and said that since this is a LAN anything can happen.
