Team LDLC won the ESL Major League (Europe) Season 1. LDLC defeated Gamers2 in five games to take the title.
For those unfamiliar with the ESL Major League format, there is first an eight team group stage with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. The playoffs had both a Winner and Loser’s bracket with a grand final. At the conclusion of the six week group stage, Gamers2 and LDLC were the favorites with a combined 13-0-1 record (LDLC only losing to Gamers2).
The playoffs played out in the same way. LDLC and Gamers2 met in the Winner's Final with Gamers2 going to the Loser’s bracket. They beat Fnatic to set the rematch in the Grand Finals. The Grand Finals was a thrilling BO5 with each team trading wins until LDLC came back from 2-1 to take the championship.
Game 5 was at the epic Sky Temple with Gamers2 running Diablo and Uther frontline and LDLC countering with double heals and an ETC/Illidan combo. It was a close game but LDLC managed to take a couple key engagements and push their map control to the $2,000 winnings.
All four playoff teams automatically qualifi for Season 2 Major League. The other teams will need to re-qualify in the ESL Open.
