ESL launches €40,000 WarCraft 3 1on1 league

The German based Electronic Sports League (ESL) recently announced their latest league with prize money for over €110,000. The league is called Core 2 Extreme Masters, which is the name on Intel's latest processors.

With their new upcoming installement, sponsored by the processor dominator Intel, they boost their advantage compared to other organizations. The biggest prize pool ever in a European tournament is what the ESL proudly can boast with. A total of €160,000 to the league as a whole, with €40,000 of it dedicated to WarCraft 3. Core 2 Extreme Masters shows that eSport has grown, and that sponsors are throwing in thousands and thousands of cash for exposure.

24 participants to battle for the hefty prize sum


In Germany, Greece, Italy and the Alps countries Austria and Switzerland the tournament participants are determined via the well-known ESL Pro-Series leagues, and will be directly invited to this league. "In general, each participating country gets a certain amount of slots, depending on the relative strength of the country." it says in the official announcement. Countries without a ESL Pro-Series league, national qualifiers will be held. More information about these national qualifiers are said to come very soon.

Stops in Hamburg, Paris, Stockholm and London


Along with this new league, ESL will start so called "Intel Friday Night Games", which concept are tournament stops with a match played offline with extra observer possibilities, compared to the online matches. At the moment, these stops are planned for Hamburg, Paris, Stockholm and London. The Grand Finals will also be played offline, but other than that they will take place some where in the first quarter of 2007 is not announced yet.

A presentation at the Games Convention in Leipzig


A kick-off event is planned during the Games Convention in Leipzig later this summer, August 26th. Shortly, more details will be announced, such as qualification modes, national qualifiers, the distribution of slots and prize money, rules and participating teams from ESL Pro Series.
