e-Sports to the Olympics?

With e-Sport's entrance into the world of professional gaming, many wonder just how it compares to physical sports. Ted Owen, the manager of the Global Gaming League is attempting to push the boundaries of professional gaming.

In an article at CNNMoney.com, Chris Morris explains Ted Owen's struggle to have professional gaming as an exhibition sport at the Olympics. He is currently talking to the Chinese government in hopes of them giving the 'okay' on showing video games as an exhibition sport.

You need to bring younger viewers back if you want to keep making money.

When asked why Owen is pushing this issue, he responds "People aren't watching [the Olympics] as much anymore," he argued. "You need to bring younger viewers back if you want to keep making money. To do that, you need to embrace non-traditional sports." The article goes on to mention just a bit of the depth of the e-Sports world, devoting about a sentence to the fact that there are professional gamers, and another to the fact that there are other leagues such as the World Cyber Games and the CyberAthlete Professional League.

The article ends with another optimistic quote from Ted Owen. "Everyone wants to watch the best at anything ... and it's time to let people see the best this field has to offer."
