With Heroes Brawl hitting the PTR this coming week, we look at some of the top Mutator and Brawl ideas to get everyone fully on the hype train!
What are Mutators?
Simply, Mutators are pre-match variations to aspects of Heroes of the Storm's default settings. This could mean changing cooldowns, timers, stats, damage numbers, or even map layouts. If you’re wondering why Mutators are a big deal, check out our post covering Heroes Brawl here.
Top Crazy Brawl Ideals
Brawl Idea 1: NEED FOR SPEED!
Lost caverns, or any map mode. All games speeds set to 4x normal, including cooldowns, movement, minions, and objectives. You can get a taste of this mode yourself by going to the in-game shop and using the try a hero feature. In the sidebar you will see a game speed setting now. This mode is extremely intense and extremely fun. Great practice for in-match reflexes.
Brawl Idea 2: CROWD CONTROL!
This mode sounds utterly bonkers. The first team to 100 points wins. Hero deaths count for 10 points. You can’t do direct damage, only slow so you must body block and use crowd control and minions to win!
- Minions can't be hurt by Heroes and do one-shot lethal damage to Heroes. Stay away!
- All Hero damage abilities slow instead of doing damage.
- All displacement abilities have 50% faster cooldowns and 50% less mana cost!
Selectable Heroes include:
- Tychus with Grenade
- Medic with Grenade
- ETC with Facemelt
- Alarak with Telekinesis
- Johanna with Condemn
- Kerrigan with Primal Grasp
- Diablo with Shadow Charge and Overpower
- Stitches with Hook
Brawl Idea 3: ARDM
This idea comes from JapanPhoenixMrglglglgl on reddit ???
Essentially this game is played normally, including normal maps, normal leveling and normal talent selection. I’ll let JapanPhoenixMrglglglgl tell the rest. “Every time you spawn, you spawn as a new hero, and have to select your talents again. At the start of the match every hero in the game is put into a spawn pool, the order is randomized, and then the pool is split in two with each team getting one half of the heroes. Each time someone spawns they remove a hero from their team's spawn pool, and when your team's spawn pool is empty you don't get to re-spawn anymore. Win by killing the core as normal, or by killing the enemy team until they run out of re-spawns. This is my favorite game mode in DOTA2, and I would love to be able to play it with HOTS heroes.”
Sounds like a good test as well as crazy fun. Guaranteed or your money back? Come on, who doesn't like sexy Picard clones?
Brawl Idea 4: VALHALLA or VAL-HELL-A?
This next idea comes to us from Guapbox stating it simply. “5 Vikings vs 5 Vikings on Warhead Junction”. I have to say, as a Vikings player, this gets me pretty excited. Even if you’re not a Vikings player, it might be better to run as a single Viking pack than to split up. Will we ever know if this mode is a nightmare? Who wants to setup a custom game and invite the best TLV players to a showdown!
Brawl Idea 5: BEARLY FUNCTIONAL!
Coming from user zaftulaAbathur, this mode wins the name game for sure. In his own words:
“Single Lane Dragon Shire map with 2 shrines on top and bottom of the lane. 5v5 ALL REXXAR BABEEE"

Brawl Idea 6: FRESH MURLOC!
This idea comes from VancouvaTespa who writes “One player gets control of The Butcher and has to hunt Murky players. Each kill The Butcher gets gives him a point and he needs 10 points to win. If a Murky player kills the Butcher, he then becomes the Butcher”.
